Erasmus+
Erasmus+ is the EU’s programme to support education, training, youth and sport in Europe. The
2021-2027 programme places a strong focus on social inclusion, the green and digital transitions,
and promoting young people’s participation in democratic life. It has an estimated budget of €26.2
billion. There are 27 member states in the EU, and an overall population of 447 million people.
70% of the Erasmus+ budget will support mobility opportunities for all, in a lifelong learning
perspective. Erasmus+ will fund the short-term and long-term learning mobility of school pupils,
offering experiences abroad both to individuals and entire classes. Erasmus+ is an excellent
programme with a generous budget, and it is worthwhile exploring this option.

Erasmus accreditation in the fields of vocational education and training, school education and adult education
Erasmus accreditation is a tool for organisations in vocational education and training (VET), school education and
adult education that want to open up to cross-border exchange and cooperation. Successful applicants for Erasmus
accreditation will gain simplified access to Key Action 1 funding opportunities in the form of accredited mobility
projects.
Key Action 1:
Mobility for pupils and staff in school education
There are two main types of Erasmus+ School Education Projects ‘Short‑term projects for mobility of pupils and staff’ and
‘Accredited projects for mobility of pupils and staff’.
Learner mobility formats:
• Group mobility of school pupils (2 to 30 days, at least two pupils per group)
• Short-term learning mobility of pupils (10 to 29 days)
• Long-term learning mobility of pupils (30 to 365 days)
Note that for group mobility, teachers or other qualified education staff from the sending school must accompany the
pupils for the entire duration of the activity and guide their learning process.
Leargas is responsible for Erasmus+ for schools in Ireland, their website is https://www.leargas.ie and the section on
