Worksheet Exercise 2
Simple sums in French
Students write down some simple sums using the basic mathematical operations (plus, minus, times,
divided by).
In order to equip them with the vocabulary needed to succeed here, the terminology is displayed on the
slide.
Click 1 displays the full set of mathematical symbols and their accompanying nouns, as given on the
student worksheet.
Clicks 2-5 each add the verbs needed in descending order. Students add this information to the worksheet
and sample sentences using each one can be suggested as they do this (and written on the board if
needed).
Once the information has all been introduced, students create their individual lists of sums. In pairs they
then question each other, asking each other the answers to the sums and answering respectively in French.
