ART
IMITATES LIFE
The beauty of Carroll Creek
is elevated by the public art
that surrounds it. One of the
more unique installations
can be discovered right
on the water at The
Carroll Creek Kinetic Art
Promenade. Kinetic art is
made up of sculptures that
interact with nature to
create movement, and the
wind and water of the Creek
make a perfect environment
for these one-of-a-kind
pieces. Nearby, on All Saints
Street, Mural of Hope is
painted on a brick-sided
wall across the street from
historic Asbury Church.
This mural is designed
to inspire hope and
anticipation to those who
need encouragement.
CLASSICAL AND CONTEMPORARY MELODIES
The Frederick Symphony Orchestra is a community symphony bringing a mix
of classical and contemporary masterworks to Frederick and its surrounding
communities. The symphony is made up of professionally trained musicians
presenting high-quality performances throughout the year.
LARGER-THAN-LIFE DESIGNS
Public art installations can be found where you’re least expecting them and put
a beautiful, personal touch on the Frederick community. The Dog Park by Jeff
Huntington (aka Jahru) and his wife, Julia Gibb, makes a colorful splash adjacent to
the Baker Park Dog Park. The Brunswick River Mural Project is another towering
art installation that makes for a stunning photo op. The mosaic piece was created
using thousands of hammer-cracked floor tiles and depicts the Potomac River as
a flowing and swirling image of energy.
Downtown
Frederick
Public Art Trail
Downtown Frederick’s public
art installations come in a
variety of shapes and sizes
and make for an exciting
scavenger hunt through the
city. The Public Art Trail
directs visitors to a sampling
of the diverse and abundant
public art in the area, making
it a great place for any
art enthusiast to start. An
interactive map of the trail
can be found online, or the
Frederick Visitor Center can
provide you with a physical
brochure and map. Follow
the trail to learn more about
each piece as you go and see
Frederick through the eyes
of its artists.
