SUSTAINABILITY
POLICY
At Popcorn Shed we care about the environment and sustainable use
of materials. We endeavour to use sustainable ingredients and packaging
wherever possible. Our shed cartons are made from recyclable board,
sourced from trees from sustainable forests. This folding box board is FSC
accredited.
Our packaging 昀椀lms use a PET free plastic, which can be recycled at larger
supermarket recycling points.
Where possible, we source ingredients from the UK to reduce our carbon
footprint.
All of our factory food waste is minimised by supplying sifted popcorn hulls
and unpopped kernels to a local farm for use in cattle feed. To reduce food
waste we have invested heavily in packaging technology giving our brand a
shelf life of 12 months+, making it one of the longest on the popcorn market.
When we deliver stock to the warehouse, we make every effort to maximise
the number of pallets on the vehicle to avoid excessive petrol emissions and
keep food miles to a minimum.
We work with Too Good To Go to reduce the amount of surplus food going
to waste. We are focused on reusing the wasted cardboard in our factory
for pallet boards or further packaging. Because we do this, we rarely have to
send it to waste or commercial recycling.
Our of昀椀ces operate paper, tin and plastic recycling schemes. Energy use
is kept to a minimum through the installation of PIR motion sensors and
limited boiler use.
Our factory’s electricity is supplied from 40% renewable sources.
We have a close relationship with a number of state of the art packaging
suppliers and we frequently test packaging options that are better for the
environment to make sure we keep working towards a more sustainable
future.
