The Nacogdoches Treatment Center is a non-profit
organization dedicated to enriching the lives of
individuals who have Alzheimer’s/Dementia and the
families who support and care for them. The Treatment
Center offers a highly unique Alzheimer’s Day Activity
Program — four hours a day, five days a week —
which includes activities that promote memory function,
self-esteem and social interaction in a safe, stimulating
environment. The program is designed to provide
constant supervision and attention to clients who
participate in activities such as light physical exercise,
word and trivia games, music, singing, bingo and
simple art projects. The Treatment Center also hosts an
Alzheimer’s/Dementia Support Group, which meets at
noon the last Thursday of the month. Group discussions
provide support and comfort to caregivers who have
family members with these debilitating diseases. Biannually a nine-week course is offered to caregivers
on stress-management, self-care and caregiving
techniques.
