STEPHEN F. AUSTIN STATE UNIVERSITY
SFA, the newest member of The University of Texas System,
opened more than century ago as a teachers’ college in
Texas’ oldest town — Nacogdoches. It has grown into a
regional institution comprising six colleges — business,
education, fine arts, forestry and agriculture, liberal and
applied arts, and sciences and mathematics. The main
campus encompasses 421 acres that include 37 academic
facilities, nine residence halls, and 68 acres of recreational
trails that wind through its six gardens.
The university is constantly evolving to meet the changing
needs of nearly 11,000 students. Its comprehensive,
student-focused curriculum includes a range of in-demand
course delivery and program options, offering more than
120 undergraduate areas of study; over 40 master’s
SFA’s students, alumni, faculty and staff make a significant
contribution to life in and beyond Nacogdoches County.
Students participate in various community service outreach
projects, like The Big Event and MLK Day of Service,
giving them the chance to partner with Nacogdoches
organizations to give back to the community that strongly
supports them.
Neighbors also enjoy access to SFA’s high-quality
academic programs and the beautiful campus. East Texas
residents enjoy year-round access to SFA’s exciting athletic
events, fine arts performances and guest speaker lectures.
SFA’s legacy of preparing leaders for life after college
includes more than 116,000 alumni, and the university
continues to embody the spirit of Texas, celebrating
traditions and delivering on a legacy of helping students
reach their potential.
“Education is how we interpret the dreams and aspirations of the
future, our students; then how we give their dreams flight, in the
experiences of their public education.”
