LAKE NACOGDOCHES
10 miles west of town off FM 225
This 2,212-acre lake is a great place to catch largemouth
bass, crappie and sunfish. Two lakeside parks include
pavilions, picnic tables, charcoal grills, swimming
areas, boat ramps, playgrounds, two disc golf courses
and an ADA compliant fishing and boat dock.
LANANA CREEK TRAIL
Trailheads at Clint Dempsey Soccer Complex (600
E. Pilar St.), Jimmy Hinds Park on E. Austin St. and

Experience the beauty of Lanana Creek from south
of downtown to the north loop. Originally a Native
American footpath, this trail extends for 6.9 miles
through primarily cottonwood and oak forests, past
Father Margil’s Spring, through the SFA Mast Arboretum,
to wide open floodplain prairies in the northern part
of town. Be sure to visit the newly added Lanana
Trailhead and Frances Shofner Loop — accessible at
the intersection of University Dr. and Maroney Dr.
LUMBERJACK NATIONAL GOLF COURSE

This hilly course first opened in 1926, and locals say it
has “the best greens in the state” which vary in undulation
with speeds determined by seasonal weather conditions.
Most of the fairways on this 18-hole championship course
are tree-lined, and all are bordered by a standard cut of
rough. The course features 6,187 yards of golf from the
longest tees for a par of 72. The course rating is 69.5,
and it has a slope rating of 125. The Lumberjack National
campus also includes a pro shop, locker rooms, swimming
pool, bar, restaurant and event facilities.
LAKE NACONICHE
Off Hwy 59, 12 miles northeast of Nacogdoches
692-acre Lake Naconiche gives East Texans yet another
option for fishing, swimming, water sports and scuba
diving. Initially stocked with thousands of largemouth
bass from the ShareLunker program, Lake Naconiche
is also home to spotted bass, channel and blue catfish,
black and white crappie and bluegill. Recreational
facilities also include accessible fishing piers, a
playground, primitive camping, swimming area and a
scuba platform.

As one of the largest community theatre groups in
East Texas, a troupe of more than 100 actors present
a variety of plays and musicals throughout the year.
Acting workshops for all ages are also offered regularly.
MILLARD’S CROSSING HISTORIC VILLAGE

This reconstructed historic village has everything from
log cabins to Victorian homes that date back to the
1830s. Guided and self-guided walking tours are
available. It is also a popular event venue rental,
photography and film site.
