Dedicated to the first agriculture professor at SFA, this
garden features an extensive muscadine collection and
“Tree Henge,” a mysterious circle of weeping bald
cypress trees.
The Plantery

The Plantery is an interactive garden that provides
hands-on experience for students at SFA. Come learn
something new by visiting our micro-farm Sprout, the
plant production facilities and teaching gardens.
Ruby M. Mize Azalea Garden
West of University Dr. between Starr Ave. and College

The largest azalea garden in Texas features more than
7,000 azaleas and is the centerpiece of Nacogdoches’
annual Azalea Trail with 1.25 miles of accessible trails.
SFA INTERPRETIVE TRAIL
West on State Hwy 7 to FM 2782 (about 6-7 miles from
Loop 224 in Nacogdoches); turn south (left) and drive
about 2.5 miles to the entrance of the Experimental Forest
Two trails spanning three miles take visitors into the
most diverse and scenic areas of the Angelina National
Forest. Some 150 species of birds and 80 species of
butterflies may be seen.
Mast Arboretum

The first arboretum at a university in Texas, this garden
spills over 10 acres and lies along the Lanana Creek
Trail. Enjoy the wide diversity of plant life, including
rare trees, shrubs, vines and perennials. Don’t miss the
Monarch Waystation at the Jim and Beth Kingham
Children’s Garden.
Pineywoods Native Plant Center

Two miles of accessible trails wind through these
lovely gardens, a wonderful place for bird and wildlife
viewing. Center grounds contain hundreds of species
— pines, hardwoods, ferns and flowering plants and a
unique collection of native East Texas plants in the Lady
Bird Johnson Wildflower Demonstration Gardens.
SFA PLANETARIUM

The SFA planetarium is one of the most sophisticated in
the state of Texas with a 50-foot diameter nano-seam
dome and a state-of-the-art 4K Digistar 6 projection
system. This system can project the night sky of stars
and planets as seen from anywhere on the Earth with
digital precision. Full-dome shows use a combination
of stunning visual effects, vivid colors, dramatic motion
and powerful surround sound to immerse audiences
in thrilling voyages of discovery. The planetarium has
seating for 114 and is wheelchair friendly. For the
hearing impaired, there is an assistive listening system
available.
SFA RECREATIONAL TRAILS
Park at the corner of Starr Ave. and N. University Dr.
The trail system includes more than eight miles of
mountain bike trails hidden in 30+ acres. The trails are
primarily advanced with a few expert level sections.
Features include steep climbs, rooty sections, tight and
twisty routes, smooth and flowy single-tracks, jumps,
berms, wooden structures and a bowl.
