New Monthly Dinner Group
for Parents and Caregivers
By Jess Patterson (she/her)
It all started with a Lenten self-care book
club on Thursday mornings. It quickly
became clear what parents needed most
was self-care in the form of fellowship.
All parents or caregivers are welcome to
join the activities listed below:
Now, a group of parents gather every
Thursday for a casual, kid-friendly coffee
talk. Our group has expanded beyond
Plymouth Church members and is a
come-as-you-are, judgment-free zone.
• On DMPS no-school days, we meet
up at local parks.
As interest in the group has grown, so
have opportunities for connection. Over
the summer, it became a rotating weekly
playground date. On Des Moines Public
School (DMPS) no-school days, we
often meet at parks for kids of all ages.
• Coffee Talk: Every Thursday from
9:30-11 a.m. in Common Grounds.
• Dinner Group: Second Monday each
month at 6 p.m. Location varies.
Please RSVP if you plan to join us.
Visit our group page on Church Center by
scanning the QR code below. While the
group is called “Mom’s Dinner Group”, all
parents and caregivers welcome.
This fall, we’ve added a monthly dinner
group for those who may prefer to connect
over a kid-free meal. This is just the start.
Our group is eager to continue growing.
Anyone in the throes of parenthood is
encouraged to join, say “hi”, and bring your
ideas and your authentic self.
