The Plymouth Service Career Scholarship assists current college
juniors, seniors, and graduate students focused on careers in
service to others. These are primarily funded by the interest on
generous bequests from the estates of Susan B. Turner, Opal
Jordan, and Mary & Frederick Royal. This year, each individual
recipient received a $2000 scholarship.
Catalina Erker-Samaniego
Catalina has chosen a career in Social
Services/Groups Advocacy Law. A
student at Drake University, Catalina
is working toward degrees in both
Economics and International Relations
and plans to go on to law school.
Extensively involved on campus and
in the greater community, Catalina
states, “The more I seek to help others,
the more I see needs…I am resolute
in channeling my skill set and experiences toward pursuing
justice.” Her professors describe Catalina as a “person of
exceptional character” who is “academically accomplished and
possesses a deep sense of empathy, integrity, and resilience.”
Catalina is a new member of the Plymouth community.
In addition to individual scholarships, the Plymouth Scholarship
fund money also helps with tuition assistance needs at Plymouth
Nursery School. This year, we were able to bridge the shortage
with a donation of $3000. Emily Rademacher is the director of
PNS. From two-year-olds to graduate-level students, the 2024
Plymouth Scholarships help equip future generations to grow in
love and to serve God’s people. We are blessed!
Hannah Marks
Hannah will be attending graduate
school at New England Conservatory to
continue her studies in Jazz Education
and Performance. You may remember
Hannah from her high school years
serving as the bassist in Plymouth’s
Saturday Night Band. A 2019 Indiana
University Jazz Studies graduate,
Hannah has spent the past five years as
a music educator. She’s taught lessons
via Zoom during COVID; worked with youth at summer jazz
camps as part of the Stanford Jazz Workshop Mentor Fellow
program; and serves low-income/high-risk students at Trinity
Church’s Jazz House Kids program in New York City. Hannah’s
work is described as “a shining example of how to instruct young
people with an air of joy, excitement, and encouragement.”
Charlie Wigton
Charlie is studying Psychology at
the University of Missouri. He plans
to attend graduate school to earn a
PhD in Counseling Psychology. As
a Plymouth high-schooler, Charlie’s
Eagle Scout project was building
shelving units and raising funds for
Plymouth’s Family Promise program.
Charlie is described as “a motivated,
strong, and talented student [with a]
notable record of work experience” and “commitment in giving
to others.” Charlie will study positive Psychology as a senior
this fall in Denmark.
