I Wonder... | written December 17, 2023
By Jack C. Porter
What was it like on December 8, 1941?
What was said in the early morning of January 20, 1946?
When will we love each other for who we are—not what others
want us to be?
How can one lonely star radiate love and hate over our entire world?
How can hate and cruelty dominate our lives, our beliefs, and our fears?
How words can destroy the very foundations of our feelings for
those who are different?
Can we recover from these days of darkness
And then I dream.
Be Not Afraid | written July 26, 2015
By Jack C. Porter
Be not afraid, but I am, just not of or why you might think.
War, hate, ill will toward others that are different than our selves.
Water, wind, and fire,
That we can control—perhaps—but don’t.
How we live,
How we see and learn.
How we listen and do.
What we want.
How we hurt or help.
How we die.
“What God does first and best and most is to trust his people
with their moment in history. He trusts them to do what must be
done for the sake of his whole community.”
—Walter Bruegelian
A dream which sees a world where people, animals and plants
prosper based on each of their strengths.
A dream where peace rules the world.
A dream filled with respect, understanding and appreciation for
those who are different in who they are, in their look, their
cultures, and their beliefs.
Until then I know history has taught us one simple lesson
