After two years of weekly work sessions,
here is what we’ve completed:
• Discarded or “re-homed” nonarchive items.
• Sorted and itemized nearly every
document and logged them into a
working data base.
• Moved the archives to a larger, drier,
more suitable room (former classroom
or storage room near the gym).
• Worked with church staff and the
Building and Grounds Committee
to regulate climate conditions in the
new space.
• Fitted the room with metal shelves
and file cabinets.
• Assisted Drake University student,
Allie Shambaugh-Miller
with the Stoddard Lane
research project. Scan the
QR code to read more.
• Moved fragile materials to archival
boxes and folders.
• Scanned four old volumes of early
history minutes and church records
dating 1885-1911.
• Scanned a bound tribute to Pastor
A.L. Frisbie.
• Posted four volumes
of scanned history to
the Iowa History site,
iowaheritage.org.
Ongoing projects include:
• Sorting and indexing thousands of items
to be accessible in a searchable system.
• Developing subject collections and a
list of subjects covered in the archives
• Indexing bulletins and scrapbooks.
• Indexing and identifying photographs.
• Scanning historic photos and documents
to post in iowaheritage.org and in the
archives cloud storage.
• Working with Connie Broich,
Director Operations and Technology,
to develop an online archive that is
accessible to Plymouth members.
• Writing stories and updates for the
Plymouth Magazine.
If anyone is interested in helping, contact
Amy Elbert (elbert.amylou@gmail.com).
We could use someone to organize
the piles of photo slides from Matins
concerts and church events.
We look forward to uncovering many
stories from our church’s past and
sharing those virtually with Plymouth
people in Plymouth News and Plymouth
Magazine, as well as in physical photo
and artifact displays at the church. Stay
tuned for more back stories from the
Plymouth’s archives.
