After two years of weekly work sessions,here is what we’ve completed:• Discarded or “re-homed” nonarchive items.• Sorted and itemized nearly everydocument and logged them into aworking data base.• Moved the archives to a larger, drier,more suitable room (former classroomor storage room near the gym).• Worked with church staff and theBuilding and Grounds Committeeto regulate climate conditions in thenew space.• Fitted the room with metal shelvesand file cabinets.• Assisted Drake University student,Allie Shambaugh-Millerwith the Stoddard Laneresearch project. Scan theQR code to read more.• Moved fragile materials to archivalboxes and folders.• Scanned four old volumes of earlyhistory minutes and church recordsdating 1885-1911.• Scanned a bound tribute to PastorA.L. Frisbie.• Posted four volumesof scanned history tothe Iowa History site,iowaheritage.org.Ongoing projects include:• Sorting and indexing thousands of itemsto be accessible in a searchable system.• Developing subject collections and alist of subjects covered in the archives• Indexing bulletins and scrapbooks.• Indexing and identifying photographs.• Scanning historic photos and documentsto post in iowaheritage.org and in thearchives cloud storage.• Working with Connie Broich,Director Operations and Technology,to develop an online archive that isaccessible to Plymouth members.• Writing stories and updates for thePlymouth Magazine.If anyone is interested in helping, contactAmy Elbert (elbert.amylou@gmail.com).We could use someone to organizethe piles of photo slides from Matinsconcerts and church events.We look forward to uncovering manystories from our church’s past andsharing those virtually with Plymouthpeople in Plymouth News and PlymouthMagazine, as well as in physical photoand artifact displays at the church.
