Plymouth Nursery School provides for the social, emotional,
physical and cognitive development of each child in a safe and
nurturing environment that promotes learning through play,
creative expression and parental involvement.
Major Events/Achievements in 2023-2024:
Plymouth Nursery School...
• Continued strong enrollment in all classes!
• Offered a Lunch Bunch enrichment program for PreKindergarteners.
• We continue to encourage parent involvement in classrooms,
which is an important part of our mission.
• Offered three scholarships and continue to build the
scholarship program to reach more families.
Plymouth Nursery School utilizes the center-based approach
of The Creative Curriculum and the Iowa Early Learning
Standards. 135 children have grown from a variety of activities
based on creative themes planned by our teachers. Our learning
centers give opportunities for social and emotional growth, the
development of play skills, and the introduction of pre-academic
and cognitive skills in age-appropriate ways. Highlights of this
school year included presentations by naturalists from Polk
County Conservation, and field trips to the pumpkin patch, apple
orchard, Jester Park, the sculpture park, the Playhouse and the
Art Center. We’ve experienced the delight of chicks hatching
and the amazing metamorphosis of 25 butterflies emerging! Our
fall Giving Tree project collected toiletries, toys, and winter gear
for residents of House of Mercy. Plymouth Nursery School was
pleased to assist 3 children with scholarships toward tuition this
year. Registration for the 2024-25 school year is going well with
most sessions already full! Our Board of Directors has provided
excellent support and oversight this year and hosted a Family Fun
Night at Union Park in May complete with carousel rides!
As I complete my first year as director, I am amazed at the incredible
tradition as well as service PNS provides. In collaboration with
Plymouth Church, we have become a welcoming place for young
families in the neighborhood and beyond. We look forward to
celebrating 70 years of high quality preschool this fall. As we
remember our founding in 1954, PNS is so grateful for a strong,
supportive partnership with Plymouth Church. We also value
the “village” that comes together to make this program happenour incredibly creative and resilient staff and Board of Directors;
Plymouth Church staff; parents, grandparents, caregivers; and the
many friends of PNS. We ARE better together!
