TRANSITION INTO MINISTRY COMMITTEE
Chair:Kevin Wilhelm
Vice Chair: Artis Reis
Secretary: Jane Hemminger
Staff Liaison: Karen Quance Jeske
Mission:
Support the Transition into Ministry residency program at
Plymouth by serving as a search committee and congregational
support committee for the residents, as well as providing
oversight for TiM program goals and its annual budget in order to
ensure program sustainability and alignment between the needs
of our residents and Plymouth Church.
Major Events/Achievements in 2023-2024:
The TiM Committee has met consistently over the past year to
support our TiM Residents and advance the TiM Program. We are
grateful for the congregation’s support.
During 2023, we continued to work closely with the Trustees
and the Plymouth Foundation to create smooth work flows and
processes now that the TiM Program is funded exclusively by the
money raised during the Fruitful Change campaign in 2018. Those
funds are managed by the Plymouth Foundation and they continue
to earn excellent returns, putting our TiM Program in excellent
shape through at least 2030. We remain grateful to the Lilly
Endowment for setting us on this path 19 years ago and we are also
grateful for the 323 Plymouth households who valued this program
enough to invest in it during the 2018 campaign.
A significant change during the past year was the arrival of Pastor
Remi Shores. Remi joined us right after finishing their Master of
Divinity degree from Brite Divinity School. During their first year
at Plymouth they have led us in planning changes to the Saturday
evening worship service and have also started a Wednesday
evening Bible Study. Pastor Peter Strobel has continued to work
with Plymouth’s Facilities and Grounds committee and has taken
on new leadership responsibilities with the Board of Benevolences
and our young adults. Both of our TiM pastors are very involved
with regular worship, pastoral care, and managing the many
assistance requests that are made at Plymouth Church. When we
meet with the two of them monthly, the number of projects and
people they work with always impress us. During 2023, we also said
farewell to Pastor Rushing Kimball and Pastor Jack Mahoney.
Last, we are looking forward to welcoming a new TiM pastor later
in the summer. As always, we are grateful to have a congregation
that is as eager as we are to see how our Residents will challenge,
surprise, and support our congregation in the year ahead.
