I don't know how many times I've been present at Aid distributions that are shit shows, as
they're essentially chaotic and unorganized because they are continuously dehumanizing
and treating Haitians like infants. And then when you see these grassroots organizations
coming in doing the very same thing but doing it well, doing it with respect, doing it in a way
that is not shaming Haitians for the position that they're in, because these are the same
people in these grassroots organizations that live in this community and it's just as important
for them.
JB: I think there's a really straightforward distinction for me, which is when you're working with
somebody, is that relationship < I am you, you are me= or is it looking at the individual as
8other.9 I think my experience again of Aid development is that it is at best naive and at worst
self-seeking, and when you speak about solidarity there is no solidarity because again the
