JB: I think that there's really interesting questions about service there and what service
means and for sure I mean there's a number of cancers related to contemporary Aid and
Development but one of those is that it makes a protagonist of the aid worker, as you say.
There's a whole white savior thing which is a bit of a cliché, but I think when I've seen this work
- not just work the best, but work in a real way - is where you are within a community, and it's
not about somebody telling you what you need and how you should move things forward; it9s
about actually subsuming yourself; about anonymizing yourself within a sort of context in
which you are cog in the wheel and in which there is nothing which makes you stand out over
and above the systems that are in place.
