ABOUT PHOENIX THEATRE ENSEMBLE
Founded in 2004 in NYC, Phoenix Theatre Ensemble is an Audelco, IRNE, Elliot
Norton, and NYITA award-winning not-for-pro昀椀t 501(c)(3) organization
committed to the presentation of the great stories of the classical canon, and
new adaptations of language-rich texts in innovative stagings that speak to and
serve contemporary audiences.
The company makes its second home in Rockland County, where Ensemble
members have created and performed classics and original works since 2018 and
launched the inaugural Phoenix Festival: Live Arts in Nyack in 2022.
We are dedicated to nurturing a diverse resident company of classically trained
and highly skilled theatre artists who call Phoenix their artistic home. We have
served New York City public school students, with our year-long, in-school InFlight
theatre arts program, bringing professional actors, directors, and designers into
the classroom four days a week.
Phoenix is a professional Actors’ Equity Association signatory and a constituent
of Theatre Communications Group, FAB, The Network of Ensemble Theatres,
ART/NY, LIT, NYIT, the Rockland Business Association, The Nyack Chamber of
Commerce, Arts Council of Rockland, New York State Tourism Association, Arts
Westchester and Orange County Arts Council.
This Year's Festival is dedicated in loving
memory to our friend and champion
Nancy Sailor Phillips
February 3, 1954 – February 17, 2024
Nancy was an integral member of the Phoenix Festival
team during our 昀椀rst two years of producing Live Arts
in Nyack. As the press and marketing representative at
Visit Nyack she worked closely with us to achieve our
vision for the Festival. We miss her wonderful creativity,
her keen editor’s eye, her boundless enthusiasm, and
her sense of humor. She was not only a colleague, but she was also a passionate
champion of Phoenix and an avid audience member. We go forward with our third
annual festival without our associate and friend, but knowing we have built upon
the past successes to which she contributed so much.
