FY23-ImpactReport - Flipbook - Page 4
DEAR FRIENDS,
From day one, the Perot Museum of Nature and Science has held at its core that STEM experiences
have immense potential to positively impact and transform the communities it serves. Research shows
informal STEM learning experiences like the ones provided by the Museum are far more determinant of
a student’s future interest in a STEM career than what they encounter inside a classroom. STEM career
opportunities in the region are growing at twice the rate of the national average. These two key pieces
of data greatly inform our work and provide an endless wellspring of motivation to be the best at what
we do. It’s our mission to bring these critical STEM moments to life and ensure they are accessible for
everyone, everywhere.
Through the hard work of our staff and volunteers, the open and willing collaboration of our many
community partners, and the generosity and vision of our donors and supporters, 2023 saw the Perot
Museum deliver meaningful, widespread impact. As you’ll read in this report, the Museum once again
inspired nearly 1 million minds through its on-site programming and off-site outreach initiatives. We
continue to re昀椀ne and refresh the Perot Museum experience to ensure there is always something new
to spark interest, and we’re pleased to share the exciting news that in early 2025, we will completely
remake our ever-popular Moody Family Children’s Museum. By nearly doubling its size and creating
all new state-of-the-art activities for our youngest visitors, we will be able to help parents provide fun,
formative experiences that can literally last a lifetime.
We’d be remiss if we didn’t also mention perhaps the most signi昀椀cant informal science learning moment
the DFW area has ever experienced: the Great North American Eclipse. Recognizing the awe-inspiring
potential of this once-in-a-lifetime moment, the Perot Museum began planning for the total solar
eclipse more than four years ago. Key to this plan was not only ensuring that the community would
understand why this eclipse was so special, but also equipping as many people as possible with the
means to enjoy the eclipse safely. We’re happy to report that these efforts, supported by our unique
partnership with Carnegie Science, as well as a private donor, inspired minds far and wide and helped
create lasting memories across our community. You’ll see more impact numbers in the pages of this
report, but the Perot Museum was able to purchase and distribute 1 million pairs of eclipse glasses,
including more than 600,000 pairs shared with nearly 600 schools across 37 school districts. We know
that without these efforts, many of these schools would not have been able to participate in the eclipse.
From one-of-a-kind events like the total solar eclipse to the everyday joy our visitors experience in our
exhibits — that’s why we’re here. And helping to create more of those moments is what we’ll do today,
tomorrow, and the day after that. Thank you for your generous support.
