he Museum was delighted to
welcome Caroline Im as the
Museum’s new director of gems and
minerals in 2023. Im manages the
Lyda Hill Gems and Minerals Hall and
oversees all aspects of the Museum’s
esteemed gems and minerals program.
Her experience includes serving at the Harvard Mineralogical
& Geological Museum, Natural History Museum of Los
Angeles County, and Lucas Museum of Narrative Art in
California. With extensive expertise and passion for Earth
sciences, Im will lead the Museum into a new era of excellence
in mineralogy, one that will seek to engage new and diverse
audiences through its comprehensive and unique “loan versus
own” collection. Already, she is busy designing captivating
exhibitions and educational programs that will showcase the
wonders of the Earth’s geological treasures — and inspire the
minds of visitors, students, and researchers alike.
FUN FACTS
ABOUT CAROLINE
She’s completed six cross-country road trips across
the United States, traveling more than 13,000 miles.
On one of her journeys, she enjoyed sledding the
gypsum sands at White Sands National Park.
During her time at Harvard’s Mineralogical &
Geological Museum, she curated the meteorite
collection.
She loves to play the bird-enthusiast board game
Wingspan and has found many kindred spirits at the
Museum who are up for a challenge.
