How to prepare mentally to
receive feedback
Be willing to accept information with
a positive, open mind
Try to understand the situation from the
perspective of the feedback provider.
Understand that they are most likely
giving that feedback with positive intent.
Receive the comments pragmatically
instead of emotionally.
Adopt a growth mindset
The opposite of a growth mindset is
one that9s oxed. A oxed mindset views
feedback as an attack on self-worth.
Be thankful that the feedback reveals
potential blind spots that could prevent
you from reaching your full potential.
Linking good habits
to the beneots
Supports agility: Feedback
energizes employees and enables
teams to make real-time, on-thefly performance adjustments that
create a competitive edge.
Inspires excellence: Employees
are 3.6 times more likely to
strongly agree that they are
motivated to do outstanding work
when their manager provides daily
(vs. annual) feedback.
Retains talent: Employees today are
looking for purpose-driven work
and a manager who acknowledges
and accelerates their progress

Performance9, 2022
Be non-judgemental
Assume good intention. Release any
judgments or preconceived notions of the
person giving you feedback. Assume that
the advice-giver has good intentions.
Be vulnerable
You9re allowed to have your authentic
reactions. But keeping them professional
and appropriate will ensure that you
continue to get useful feedback in
the future.
How to receive
feedback well
Try using the ACT model
Acknowledge, Clarify and Thank the
feedback provider.
Separate your performance from
your identity
Teammate or customer feedback is about
your work performance, not about you
as a person. It can be hard at orst, but
reminding yourself of this helps you not to
take criticism personally.
