hardworking big sister who sets a good example by having a giving heart." They see it in her
work ethic at home and as she simultaneously navigates school and her career. When the
twins are going through things, Enicia always asks, "What's wrong? Let's sit down and talk."
She typically has the solution or a set course of actions, working towards the solution.
Grace and Gloria's journey was far different from Enicia's. They had each other every step
of the way. Someone going through the same life experiences at the same time, who is the
same age. Though they are bonded at the hip, they are entirely different people. Gloria is
more cautious and careful with her delivery - like a poet, and Grace is more outspoken and
spontaneous. When it comes to expression and art, Gloria enjoys thinking about the design
process, and Grace enjoys drawing what she sees right away. Their respective traits and
methods of expression have given them advantages in different settings.
They played basketball outside of school and with their sister for years before playing for
PeacePlayers in Grade 4 at Carrington Primary School. For them to play, their parents made
it clear that they must keep their grades up to par, so "we had to keep our grades good to do
fun things" Gloria added.
They may not have tried out for the team if their teacher, Ms. Vilakazi, didn't encourage
them to give it a shot. She encouraged them to play because of their height at an early age.
It was a good idea, simply from their winning City-Wide Tournament during their first
year of playing in 2016. One year later, when they were in Grade 5, Coach Enicia Tshibanda
reappeared at her alma mater, Carrington Primary School, and introduced herself as the
team's coach. The twins had the pleasure of having their sister as their coach; however
Enicia wouldn't take it easy on them. Grace, the outspoken twin, became vice-captain for
the next two years.
The twins state that “PeacePlayers basketball helped us get to know our friends even
better, which led to deeper connections. Our older friends who had been in these
environments before would introduce us to kids from other teams.” They especially
enjoyed it when they met participants of different ages and from other schools. Gloria says
that Cross-Community Peace League games are her favourite because they met Umlazi,
