2022 PeacePlayers Impact Report FINAL - Flipbook - Page 51
PeacePlayers is recognized as Beyond Sport’s 2020 Sport for Reduced
Racial Inequalities Collective Impact Award. In collaboration with the
other award winners, PeacePlayers was tapped to contribute to Beyond
Sport’s Racial Equity Assessment and Learning Tool.
“BEYOND SPORT HAS BEEN INSPIRED BY PEACEPLAYERS’ WORK FOR MORE THAN A DECADE AND WE ARE
HONORED TO HAVE THEM AS A PARTNER. IN THE FACE OF THE DEEP RACIAL DIVIDES THAT FOSTER INEQUITY WHERE YOUNG PEOPLE OF COLOR ARE SYSTEMICALLY OVERLOOKED AND MARGINALIZED - THE MASTERFUL WAY THE
ORGANIZATION USES BASKETBALL TO HELP BUILD A PEACEFUL AND EQUITABLE SOCIETY TRULY EMBODIES SPORT
WITH INTENTION. THIS AWARD AND ACCOMPANYING GRANT WERE ESTABLISHED TO FOSTER COLLABORATION AMONG
ORGANIZATIONS USING SPORT TO PROMOTE RACIAL EQUALITY AND SUPPORT BLACK COMMUNITIES ACROSS THE U.S.,
AND PEACEPLAYERS’ INSIGHTS AND CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE REAL TOOL WERE INVALUABLE.”

FRED TURNER
Executive Director, Beyond Sport
PeacePlayers U.S. hosts the first Girls’ Summit, hosting 20 girls from all
five PeacePlayers cities for five weeks.
“BEING A PART OF THE PEACEPLAYERS NATIONAL GIRLS SUMMIT LITERALLY GAVE ME CHILLS. AS A FORMER ATHLETE
AND AVID PROMOTER OF WOMEN AND GIRLS’ EMPOWERMENT, THIS EXPERIENCE WAS NEAR AND DEAR TO ME. TO
BE ABLE TO PROVIDE A PLATFORM AND SAFE SPACE FOR YOUNG WOMEN IN SPORT ACROSS THE UNITED STATES TO
EXPRESS THEMSELVES, UPLIFT THEIR FELLOW GIRL AND GROW, REMINDED ME OF WHY OUR WORK IS SO IMPORTANT.
I AM PROUD OF OUR PEACEPLAYERS TEAM FOR BEING BEACONS OF HOPE TO OUR FELLOW GIRLS, AND I AM EVEN
MORE PROUD OF THE YOUNG LADIES WHO PARTICIPATED FOR EMBRACING THEIR AUTHENTIC SELVES.”
