2022 PeacePlayers Impact Report FINAL - Flipbook - Page 19
Bounced back from two back-to-back recessions (2008,
2011) that nearly eradicated the program completely.
Key staff remained as volunteers in order to be there for
PeacePlayers communities during those difficult times, and
made sure the program was able to weather the storm.
2012
AFTER THE 2008 RECESSION LEFT PEACEPLAYERS SOUTH AFRICA WITH ONLY
150 PARTICIPANTS, NEARLY 10 YEARS LATER, THEIR PARTICIPATION
HAD MULTIPLIED 15 TIMES.
PeacePlayers South Africa won the KZN Department of
Sport and Recreation Body of the Year Award.
“[THESE AWARDS ARE] SIGNIFICANT BECAUSE WE HAVE BEEN
WORKING TO SOLIDIFY INSTITUTIONAL PARTNERSHIPS WITH
GOVERNMENT AGENCIES TO SUPPORT THE GROWTH OF OUR
ORGANIZATION AND INCREASE BRAND AWARENESS.
IN 2021 WE RECEIVED A GRANT FROM THE DEPT. OF SPORT
AND RECREATION FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE 2001.”
