It works with multiple partnersacross a range of disciplines and its MarineKnowledge Exchange Network connects1000+ cross-sector stakeholders.The Centre of the Environment, Fisheriesand Aquaculture Science (Cefas) has hadits headquarters in Lowestoft for the last100 years. It is a world-leading researchorganisation that specialises in marinescience, technology and environmentalpolicy, including monitoring and assessment.In particular, it provides scientific andpolicy advice to governments and otherinternational organisations on thedevelopment of offshore renewable energy.TACKLING THE CAUSESOF CLIMATE CHANGEAND RELATEDCHALLENGES SUCH ASFOOD & ENERGY SECURITY.UEA and Cefas have worked together sincethe UEA’s founding in 1965 through theCollaborative Centre for Sustainable Useof the Seas (CCSUS). They are particularlyfocused on understanding and tacklingthe causes of climate change and relatedchallenges such as food and energy security.The University of Suffolk (UoS) has areas ofdistinctiveness in sustainability and digitalfutures. The Suffolk Sustainability Institute(SSI) was formed in February 2018 incollaboration with Suffolk County Council.The SSI has three primary areas of interest:sustainable energy, design and the builtenvironment and ecology and conservation.The university’s Digital Futures Institute (DFI)focuses on technology, creative digital andfuture digital applications. At the heart of thisactivity is the DigiTech Centre, a collaborationbetween UoS and BT Group, with funding fromNew Anglia LEP. Located within InnovationMartlesham at Adastral Park, the centreprovides training in cutting-edge digital skillsfor the communications technology sector, andfuels high tech businesses requiring access toa talented technology workforce.Norfolk and Suffolk has a thriving networkof innovation hubs specialising in agri-food,engineering and digital/ICT, as well as cleanenergy. Of particular relevance to thedevelopment of integrated Net Zero energysystems is BT Group’s global R&D headquartersat Adastral Park in Suffolk, because it is theUK’s leading patent filer for AI (with 86 patentfamilies). BT’s reputation for applied researchhas also helped it to establish the InnovationMartlesham cluster of around 150 like mindedbusinesses, which employ around 3000computer scientists and technicians on the park.X9
