A diopter is the magniocation strength of a lens and is usually applied to reader-style eyeglasses or bifocals.
Lenses with a maximum focal length of 1 meter, deoned as the physical length between the middle of the lens and the point at which items are brought
into clear focus of 1 meter, have a strength of 1 diopter.
As the diopter strength is calculated based on the inverse of the lens9 focal length, a 2 diopter lens is equivalent to 1/2 meter, a 3 diopter lens is equivalent
to 1/3 meter and so on.
This makes it important because magniocation intensioes as the lens focal length decreases, which is the main reason why using higher diopter strength
lenses allows for sharper, clearer images closer to your eyes.
Younger, more nexible eyes can keep up with both near and far objects however as we age, our eyes lose nexibility and can no longer maintain focus on
near objects without the assistance of readers, bifocals or prescription eyeglasses with appropriate diopter strength lenses.
