One day he has an encounter that will change his
life. He comes across a shark that has a terrific
device – a long, slender, saw-like snout equipped
with sharp, tooth-like projections on each edge. It
is very solid and useful, enabling him to undertake
some quite intricate activities. Albert is rather
envious of how the shark can use his snout so
skilfully.
The sawshark is regularly called upon throughout
the reef, whether to shape a giant sponge, clear
a passage through the coral or cut some large
algae that are suffocating everything else. He is
courageous, strong, tireless and highly respected.
Albert, fascinated by the amazing work of this jackof-all-trades, would also like to be useful. But how
can he accomplish great things when he’s only got
a small pointed nose that is fragile at best?
Feeling this is what he is destined to do, he sets
out to find a surgeonfish to ask for his aid. “You’re
so skilful and I need your assistance. Like the
sawshark, I’d like to help the inhabitants of the reef.
Could you please adapt my head and my body so
that I can build, shape and repair the underwater
landscape?”
The surgeonfish therefore carries out a very
delicate operation. It transforms the young shark’s
nose into a large, strong and powerful hammer,
adding an eye to each side so he has a wide range
of vision.
