MONEY COWRY
Known in Mauritius as koki boner (lucky shell), the
money cowry (Monetaria moneta), was traditionally
used as currency (shell money). While that is no
longer the case, the shell is still worn in jewellery or as
a talisman (carefully secreted in one’s wallet).

Un cauri, ou « koki boner »
De son vrai nom porcelaine-monnaie (Monetaria moneta),
la « coquille bonheur » a historiquement été employée
comme monnaie. Si ce n’est plus le cas, elle continue
aujourd’hui à se porter en bijou… ou en talisman (à garder
précieusement dans son portefeuille).
