After the devastating runaway fire
on Table Mountain that gutted the
Jagger Reading Room in the UCT
Libraries, and the Special Collections
it housed, over 2 000 staff, students,
volunteers and international experts
came together in an extraordinary
salvage operation. Ten thousand
items are now in cold storage as
part of the rehabilitation process
for water-damaged materials, and
priceless items have been saved.
