Gary and ORR Design Office have done three
major projects for me and my family. Gary’s
vision for what is possible and what makes
esthetic and functional sense is amazing.
Interiors, structural, exterior space, landscape,
hardscape...they do it all. They even designed
custom furniture. They designed an outdoor
“resort” at my private residence where we
spend 8 months a year cooking, lounging
and swimming in the space. I can’t recall how
many awards that they earned and how many
times that our project was published. Based
on that project, Gary also designed a major
downtown mixed-use project for us. Last year
we moved to an old mid-century modern
house on a mountainside with a stunning
view of Mount Diablo. We brought Gary back
for his vision and the result is stunning- Just
a magical place... thank you for helping us
transform it into the home of our dreamsAGAIN! You are one of a kind. ORR Design

About this project
This project started with a 1950’s mid-century modern home and an old ameba shaped pool
that were in bad shape. Located on stunning hilltop site of multiple distant views, the home
and backyard were renovated to frame new views and create separate intimate indooroutdoor spaces at the same time. Cast-in-place concrete walls, a grey oyster shell Petanque
court, hidden spa deck on a lower hillside terrace level all converge into an exemplary
example of restrained modernity.
