Using waterproof grease,generously grease the shaftbefore you reinstall thepropeller.A thorough inspectionof your battery(s) andelectrical system isespecially importantduring your winterizationprocess. Make sure eachbattery is topped offwith distilled water thenbring it up to full charge.A battery at full charge isless likely to freeze; in fact,a fully charged battery canwithstand -58 degreesFahrenheit before freezing.If you find corrosion onthe terminals, remove thebattery from the boat andclean it off with a mildsolution of baking soda andwater. Once everything isclean it is also a good ideato use one of the variouscorrosion guard offeringsafter reassembly. As longas you have 12 volts on thebrain, you should also gothrough the rest of yourelectrical installation andlook for loose connections,and damaged wiring.Check all the switches andbreakers to make sure theyare working correctly.Don’t overlook your electrictrolling motors and theirelectrical system.As with the boat batteriesmake sure the trollingmotor batteries are fullycharged. Pull the prop andremove any fishing line,hair-ties, balloon ribbons,and weeds that may haveset up shop. Check thedrive pin for damage andmake sure that you havea spare onboard. Check allthe mounting bolts andtighten them as required.Clean and lubricateper the manufacturer’srequirement. Check all yourelectrical connections andpull the batteries from anyremote controls.
