DIVERSE SUPPLIER SUCCESS STORIES
Strategic Undergrounding (SUG)
Our Strategic Undergrounding (SUG) Program, a critical component of our industry-leading
wildfire mitigation program, has exceeded our supplier diversity goals. The success of this
program is due in large part to the close collaboration between all the stakeholders which
include Supplier Diversity, Supply Management, our business units and our prime and
diverse suppliers.
To expedite the number of miles undergrounded and maximize every dollar, we structured
a new program through a large, multiphase, competitive sourcing process. This process is
managed by AECOM, a large alliance supplier with aggressive supplier diversity goals. In late 2023, we launched the civil
construction request for proposal, the largest component of our SUG program. Our prime diverse suppliers that have been
a part of our program from the beginning competed in the sourcing efforts, including VetSource Inc. This service-disabled
veteran-owned business is now expanding its scope of work.
Vegetation Management
Inspecting and maintaining vegetation located near our electrical infrastructure is a
critical component of our Wildfire Mitigation Plan to keep our communities safe. For
the first time, a Minority Business Enterprise, Rancho Tree Service, came on board as
a prime contractor for our vegetation management program. With Rancho’s professional
support to prune and remove trees and clear brush around our power poles, power lines
and transmission structures, we are able to maintain safe clearances around our critical
infrastructure. Nearly half a million trees are located near our infrastructure and carefully tracked in our tree inventory. In
addition to vegetation management work, Rancho has also participated in our community outreach events.
