TAMWORTH : PROPOSED SECONDARY SCHOOL BUILDING.
All reports go to shew the urgent need for providing for
the secondary section of the Tamworth School.
Plans for a single-storied building have been ready since
May last, but the case, with many others, is held over owing
to lack of funds.
The proposed building makes provision for four classes
and its erection would relieve the primary school to such an
extent that additional accommodation thereat would probably
not be required.
The Architect estimates that the work will cost £2340.
In a report dated February last, the HeadMaster stated:The Boys' Primary school occupies rooms 2,3 and 4
and the hatroom. Each room is fully occupied and the
hatroom in question was described in the Inspection
Report as ill-lighted and badly ventilated.
The secondary pupils are provided with but one class
room for upwards of 100 pupils doing all four years
of the Course.(This room is 32' X 21'and has seating
for 66 and is occupied by 1st Year students who will
probably number well over 60 when the Q.C. results
are available.
Second Year students are placed in the Science Room,
a most inconvenient arrangement both on account of the
frequent changes necessary when other classes are taking
science, and the fittings of the room make it ill
adapted for use as an ordinary classroom. The class
numbers 21 and is rather large for the room.
Third Year Students (9) and Fourth Year (6) are at
present in the Teachers' Room with seating for 10.
The only room in which I can put one of the classes is
the Manual Training Room which is totally unsuitable
as a classroom and I have no desks for the room."
pod
In forwarding this report, Mr. Inspector Elliott suggested
as a temporary expedient the addition of two temporary rooms.
The Principal Senior Inspector repeated his recommendation
of 28/6/1916, which read:The position is somewhat complicated but I think the
better course will be to go on with these buildings as
planned on the site adjoining the Public School one.
They will do hereafter for High School p rposes."
