Marriage: Love and Law exhibition catalogue - Flipbook - Page 117
Carnal desire, human reproduction
and organic life are represented
in Fiona Hall’s reinterpretation of
Jan van Eyck’s The marriage of the
Arnolfini. In emphasising marriage
as an embodied state, Hall—whose
work was produced during a period
of Cold War tensions—alludes
to a set of powerful forces that
overshadow personal relationships,
and more broadly, humanity.
