PROPOSED AMENDMENT OF THE CLAIMS AGAINST THE GOVERNMENT AND
CROWN SUITS ACT, 1912.
Approval was given to the recommendations contained in
Cabinet Minute 88-134, dated 23rd June, 1988, submitted by
the Attorney General, in relation to this matter.
The Attorney General is to take the necessary action to dive
effect to Cabinet's decision, including the preparation ol
the necessary legislation.
PROPOSED AMENDMENTS TO THE SALE OF GOODS ACT.
Approval was given to the recommendations contained in
Cabinet Minute 88-130, dated 15th June, 1988, submitted by
the Attorney General, in relation to this matter.
The Attorney General is to take the necessary action to give
effect to Cabinet's decision, including the preparation of
the necessary legislation.
PROPOSED REPEAL OF THE FIREARMS AND DANGEROUS WEAPONS ACT,
1973 AND THE INTRODUCTION OF MORE SIMPLIFIED AND
STRENGTHENED FIREARMS LEGISLATION.
Approval was given to the recommendations contained in
Cabinet Minute 88-73, dated 17th May, 1988, submitted by the
Minister for Police and Emergency Services,, in relation to
this matter, subject to the following amendments:-
•
Recommendation 3.2.2. - Deletion of the
words "a statutory right".
Recommendation 3.2.3. - Deletion of the
second sentence.
Recommendation 3.2.5. - the addition of the
words "a decision of the Commissioner will
be reviewable through the Court".
Paragraph 4.9 - Deletion of the last sentence.
Cabinet also decided that the Minister for Police and
Emergency Services and the Attorney General are to confer on
the proposed penalties, as outlined in Attachment B. Where
a penalty of $2,000 is proposed, an appropriate increase
might be $5,000.
The Minister for Police and Emergency Services is to take
the necessary action to give effect to Cabinet's decision,
including the preparation of the necessary legislation.
