PROPOSED LEGISLATION TO REPEAL THE HIGHER EDUCATION
ACT.
Approval was given to the recommendations contained in
Cabinet Minute 88-7, dated 8th April, 1988, submitted
by the Minister for Education and Youth Affairs in
relation to this matter, subject to:-

* Amendment of the recommendation to; 'That
approval be given for the drafting of
legislation to repeal the Higher Education
Act, 1975 and to make consequential amendments
to the Colleges of Advanced Education Act
1975 and that detailed matters relating to
a structure for course accreditation be
referred to the Cabinet Committee on
Community Services for consideration'.
The Minister for Education and Youth Affairs is to take
the necessary action to give effect to Cabinet's
decision, including the preparation of the necessary
legislation.
PROPOSED LEGISLATION TO RE-ESTABLISH THE SCHOOL
CERTIFICATE.

Approval was given to the recommendations contained in
Cabinet Minute 88-8, dated 8th April, 1988, submitted
by the Minister for Education and Youth Affairs in
relation to this matter.
Cabinet noted that the Minister for Family and
Community Services is to investigate the implications
for expelled students as referred to in recommendation
2(ii).
The Minister for Education and Youth Affairs is to take
the necessary action to give effect to Cabinet's
decision, including the preparation of the necessary
legislation.
