EDUCATION AND PUBLIC INSTRUCTION BILL, 1987.
Approval was given to the provisions of the
Education and Public Instruction Bill, 1987, as
summarised in Cabinet Minute No. 12-87 dated 30th
January, 1987, submitted by the Minister for
Education in relation to this matter, subject to:clarification by the Minister for
Education of clause 11(1) to include
the requirement for religious instruction
to be held during school hours; and

clause 11(3) being amended to require
that scheduling of religious instruction
be fixed between the Inspector of Schools
or delegate (not the School Principal),
and the clergy.
TOTALIZATOR (AMENDMENT) BILL, 1987.
Approval was given to the provisions of the
Totalizator (Amendment) Bill, 1987, as summarised
in Cabinet Minute No. 13-87 dated 3rd February,
1987, submitted by the Minister for Racing in
relation to this matter.
PROPOSED AMENDMENT OF THE PREVENTION OF CRUELTY
TO ANIMALS ACT 1979 RELATING TO A GENERAL REVISION.
Approval was given to the recommendations contained
in Cabinet Minute No. 365-86 dated 1st December,
1986, submitted by the Minister for Local
Government in relation to this matter, subject to
the following amendments to Annexure I:the maximum penalty in proposal 7(iii)
being $4,000; and

proposal 11 being withdrawn.
The Minister for Local Government is to take the
necessary action to give effect to Cabinet's
decision, including the preparation of the
necessary legislation.
