From an historical context, surveying was never a female profession. Surveyors had
to camp away in large groups for long periods of time. There was a lot of physical work—
a lot of chopping down trees through the bush. Surveying combines the challenges
of maths and sciences, and for a long time females weren’t encouraged in these pursuits.
But with the emergence of technology, a lot of things have changed. Technology has
made it a lot easier. The number of women in the field is increasing, although quite slowly.
