Amalgamation of Boys' an Gir a' Deii'tmnts.
The Mistress of the Girls' Department of the VVagç;a .Publ±e
School (fourth class) has applied for transfer, which is
recommended by the District Inspector, who also recorrisnJ th
transfer of the first assistant.
The Inspector adds that Wagga School has no immediate
prospects of reverting to 3rd class. The population of the town
• is drifting away from the sector in which this school is located,
The tezid definitely is against any increase in the school

The school statistics for the past two years indicate
that at no time has the average attendance approached the 500
mark. During the present year the average attendance has been,
1st teii 461p 2nd term 448, including 1142 in the Infants'
Department.

Regul at ion 425 provides that when a school has an
average attendance of a permanent character exceeding 360.. it
may be divided into two Departments; and when a school has a
peianent average attendance exceeding 600, it may be divided
into.three departments." Conversely, a school which cannot
i±itain the requisite average for three departments is liable
to reduction in the number of departments.
In recommending the amalgamation of the Boys' and Girls'
Departments at Wagga, the District Inspector states that this
would facilitate the better classification of pupils and reduce
expenditure on staffing.
The question of the establishment of a separate girls'
department at Wagga South Public School was explored in
conjunction with the matter now under discussionAt the

not be served by taking action in this direction at present.

It may be difficult to find suitable positions for the
stress and First Assistant at Wagga immediately.

It is RO0MMDD that the Boys' and Girls' Departments
at Wagga Public School be combined and that the Mistress and
First Assistant of the Girls' Department be transferred
elsewhere, as soon as suitable vacancies occur.
