Kooringal High School Establishment for 1973
Proposals to institute planning action towards the
construction of a High School at Kuoringal, a suburb of
Wagga, were submitted in April 1970 and approval was granted
shortly thereafter to the construction of a High School to
operate from 1973.
The new High School is being erected on a site of
20 acres, bounded by Fay Avenue, Zeigler Avenue and Menzies
Avenue. She postal address will be Zeiler Avenue.
Construction has commenced and it is anticipated
that the School will operate on its new site from the first
day of the 1973 school year. The ,econd Form for Kooringal
High School is currently being boarded as First Formers at
Mt. Austin High School. The operation of a High School in
Kooringal will have an effect on Mt. Austin High. School,
reducing that School over the next two (2) years to the
vicinity of 1,000 (current enrolment ajproximately 1,300).
However, because considerable residential development is
occurring adjacent to Mt. Austin High School, an en_:ol 'ant
upwards of 1,200 could he realised at Mt. Austin within the
next five (5) years. Enrol lents at Wagga High School are
currently 1,100 and it is expected that as this School's
future feeder area will be slightly reduced because of the
lobs of some pupils to Kooringal High bchool and the fact
that this School is situated in tae older L,ection of town
that there could he q decline to aro,nd the 900 mark .
However, because of the current trend towards the sale
of older homes in Lhe inner city area to young couples,
it could well be that in future years there could ';-)e an
upsurge in numbers at this School.
The Kooringal High School will open in 1973 ,itia an
enrolment in the vicinity of 400 oupils rising to appro—
ximately 600 in 1974 and 780 in 1975. The stability of
Kooringal High School is assured because of the fact that
the future residential development in Wagga, other than
adjacent to lIt. Austin High School, will occur in the
Kooringal suburb.
It is accordingly recommended that covering aTT;)roval
he given to the establishment of Kooringal High School to
operate from 1973.
