(b) Those whose parents prefer to
send them to Murwillumbah at their
own expense, although suitable
courses are provided at Tweed Heads.
There are 25 of these children.
The growing need for secondary education facilities in Tweed Heeds has been carefuLly watched. In 1955
a site of ,_() (Acres at 3outh Tweed Heads was secured :or
a new high school, and it is hope„, that this school will
be erected during 1950- It is understood that its establishment has been approved. When this _oho-1 has been opened,
the draw-off from Tweed Heads to Viirwillumbah will ceases
as the two schools will have equal status and provide similar courses.
These facts indicate clearly that it is departmental policy to encoura,c7e and promote secondary facilities
at Twe:2d. Heads, and no evidence o contradiction of this
policy by- a- v departmental officer has been brought to notice
It would apnear that Dr. Croese and members of
the Chamber of Commerce are concerned about the present
position where 46 children travel to the Murwiliumbah High
future
School, and that they are unaware of plans for
development of secondary education in Tweed Heads.
The notice of the headmaster will be drawn to
Dr. Croese's co. ents on advice given to particular children
in is school for a- y action he deems necessary.
Draft reply is submitted 'herewith for the Minister'..signature, if approved,
