Tweed Heads Intermediate High School - 6econdary Classes.

In 192' a High School was established at Murwillumbah, and for the past 30 years this school has met the
needs of children throughout the Tweed Valley requiring full
high school courses. During this time very strong traditions
have been built up by this school.
Post war development of Tweed Heads, 20 miles
from 7:.urwilaumbah, as a tourist resort has given rise to a
sharp increase in population, and a correspondin development of the school, which was raised in status to "Intermediate High School" in 1956. In the same year for the first
time a small fourth year class was established and the
pioneer fifth year class of four pupils was presented for
the Leaving Certificate in 1957. This year there are six
pupils in fifth year and nine in folArtia

To meet the increased enrolment, additional
specialist and classroom accommodation has been provided at
Tweed Heads in the past few ye rs and staff has been increased.
These figures show a steady devd[opment of the
secondary section, and there has been a corresponding decrease in the number of children proceeding from. Tweed Heads
to Murwillumbah High School. However, old habits and traditions remain, and there are still 46 Tweed Heads secondary
children travelling daily to and from Murwillumbah.
These ceildren fall into two distinct categories:
(a) Those who seek courses not
available at Tweed Heds, numbering
21, to whom conveyance subsidy is
paid, and
