SUBJECT:
South Tweed Heads : Primary Site.
REFERENCE: .My letter of 23rd July, 1957.
Following my submission of 23rd July, 1957,
I enclose a sketch map showing lots 219 and 220 referred
to in that submission. Lot 219 has already been acquired
'for secondary purposes. It contains 20 acres. The present suggestion is that 10 acres of lot 22C be acquired as
a primary site, making a total of 30 acres in all. This
would mean the acquisition of an area from lot 220, having
a frontage of 71 chains on Oxley Street and a depth of 13i
chains,
The new primary school building approved for
South Tweed Heads is being placed facing Seymour Street as
indicated on this plan. It is suggested that when the
secondary school is built, and this will not be for some
years, that the primary site will become the area shated
in red and the high school site will include some of the
area now being acquired as a primary site, but still retaining its 20 acres in all.
The Tweed Shire Council has made a tentative
suggestion that an area of V- acres of our secondary site
be developed by them as a public park as indicated on the
plan. This seems to be a very good suggestion, but I
think that it should not render necessary the acquisition
of more than the 10 acres suggested, as the park would be
available for recreation when the high school is in operation.
