SUBJECT:
Tweed Heads South : Acquisition
of Site for Primary School.
•••••
In.
A few years ago an excellent site was acquired
for a future secondary school at Tweed Heads South which has
been developing very rapidly as a residential area in
post-war years. Recently this development has been at an
even greater rate following the sub-division of a large area
of land in the Terranora Lakes area. During last week I
visited this area and feel convinced that ,)ithin the next
decade it will be necessary for us to provide a large primary
school for this community. Expansion from now on will be
most rapid. I was informed on good authority that within
two days sixty building blocks had been sold on the newly
formed Terranora Lakes Drive.
Approval has been given for the establishment
of a primary school at South Tweed Heads and a building of
three rooms will be placed on the high school site during
the next few months so that the school will be in operation
from the beginning of the next school year. Adjoining the
high school site is an area of land from which ten acres
could be acquired for a primary school site. This land is
in the Parish of Terranora, County Rous and the Murwillumbah
Land District and comprises Portion 220. It is part of the
estate of the late M. Turnoch who lived at Chinderah on the
Tweed River.
It is RECOMMENDED that action be taken to
acquire ten acres of this land as a primary school site. Mr.
Inspector J.C. Pryce is being asked to obtain plans so that
the exact dimensions of this proposed acquisition might be
forwarded.
