1. OPERATING BOX--If and when moving pictures are
exhibited in the premises the following requirements will need
to be complied with:—
(a) The minimum sizez of box to be
10 ft. • 8 ft. Rewinding operations must not be carried out in
operating boxes when the public
are present, but may be carried out
in an approved room set aside for
the purpose. The operating box
doors must open outwards and
be made self-closing with spring
action fitted with ball catches to
keep doors in position after
•
closing. The internal faces of exit
doors to be lined with 4-inch
asbestos mill-hoard and galvanised
flat-iron. Door frames to be
treated in a similar manner. All
iron to be screwed into position.

for projection and observation purposes must not exceed
8 inches by 8 inches, as provided for in Regulation 100,
and these openings to be provided with a system of
metal shutters hung with light cords led over pulleys
to a convenient position near each exit oor arranged to
operate instantly from either door when cords are
released from a simple device, and so close openings in
event of fire in the box. For shutters, see marginal

Loose electric wire installations are not permitted.
The whole must be thoroughly fixed and insulated in an
orthodox manner.
( b) The operating box is to be provided with exhaust tube
ventilator and smoke escape of galvanised iron 18 inches
in diameter. The tube is to terminate on the Underside
of the ceiling line of the biograph box the jointing to be
smoke-proof and the tube to be situated directly over
machines; or in the case of more than one machine,
with a hopper mouth large enough to serve both
machines, in lieu of providing two tubes. The tube is to
be carried up above the main roof and is to be fitted
with an exhaust owl. Subject to approval tubes may
discharge elsewhere into the open air in an approved
manner. If equired small vent tubes may connect
between the machines lamp house and the 18-inch vent
tube provided they are fixed in such a manner that the
large vent will not be obstructed.
In the case of existing and new operating rooms where
talking equipment is installed and screening or observation ports are covered with glass, provisions must be
made for permanent intake ventilation drawn directly
from the outer air. In the case of wooden-framed walls
or hollow wall construction iron or earthenware tubes
are to connect between the internal and external faces
of the walls. There should not be less than three vents
in each operating room in a position about 2 inches
above the floor line, each vent to be not more than 4
inches in height nor more than 15 inches in length. The
vent where discharging into the biograph room is to be
covered with --inch mesh wire protected by a suitable
grille. The wire is to be kept clean.

be kept in non-combustible metal cases provided with

prevent ignition of films contained therein and such
cases shall be kept in the biograph room constructed in
accordance with the requirements of the Regulations.

Operating boxes must be thoroughly clean and free
from all litter, etc.
All machines must be maintained in full repair and co
on least liable to cause damage or stoppage in passing
of film through machine. Any cinematograph machine
found to be in a condition other than mentioned shall be
considered unfit for use until placed in thorough repair.
Cleanliness and detailed inspection of cinematograph
machines and operating boxes shall be the first care of
Cinematograph Operators. The licensee shall be held
entirely responsible for the proper and safe use of the
I pparatus.
2. FIRE APPLIANCES GENERALLY—
Fire-fighting appliances are to be in accordance with
Regulations 74 and 78 and are to meet with the approval
of the Fire Brigades authorities. The approved schedule
of fire appliances for halls seating from 1 to 500 persons

Where town water supply is available and when so
directed, hydrants and fire services to be installed to
meet the requirements of the Fire Brigades authorities.
Hand chemical extinguishers of approved types are
