Dear Sirs,
re LIGUBIIAEPTEEAUB,_BROKEN HILL.
In reply to your communications of the 7th. June,
I wish to state that although licensed as two theatres the above
premises is really an open air theatre with an enclosed portion,
built in that fashion to suit the local climatic conditions, and
has operated and been used as such ftr appr o ximately the past
twentyfour years. Never during that period has there been two
separate performances held at the one time. During the warmer
season, approximately eight months of the year, the open air
portion is used exclusively with the exception of an evening that
a dust storm blows up during the performance, which is so intense
sometimes that the picture screen is obliterated from view, then
the audience changes over to the enclosed portion of the theatre.
During the colder months the inside portion is used exclusively,
and the seats are all stored away from the open air portion. It
comprises then a large open garden which the audience pass through
and also use at interval time for a smoke-o.
During all the years that the Theatre has been
operating, we are proud to be able to state that there has never
been an accident or a fire, or even the slightest inconvenience
or delay caused to any patrons, leaving the Theatre at the close
of the performance or the change over, as previously mentioned
during the Summer months. In fact the Theatre has cleared itself
of patrons from a capacity house in approximately three minutes.
This was when Broken Hill was booming. As no doubt
you are aware, we unfortunately will never again handle such large
crowds owing to the decline of the local population caused through
more than half of the Mines being closed down for the past three
years, and these are never likely to open again as they are
