St Q83NT OF EDUCATION.'ISTRICT.cTioN!EDUCATIONDEIRTMINT6NOV 11340ectoxChief Inspector.ACCOMMODATION.From previous reports on the accommodation positionin the Girls' Department at this schools it will be remembered26NOV194Othat a sixth class occupies a hat room into which approximately15 desks have been carried and temporarily arranged.i-c7;:7:This hat room is exposed to the full force of the ittemorning and afternoon sun, and, consecuently) in hot, dustyweather is uninhabitable. On Wednesday, 18th November, last,it was reported to me that the teacher in this hatroombecame affected by the conditions and had to be relieved ofduty while resting in the staffroom.I have instructed the Mistress of the Department thatthis room is not to be occupied when temperatures are high, although this will lead to overcrowding and unhealthy conditiin other rooms.I have investigated the acconnodation1 needs at thisschool in both boys' and girls' departments for 1941. Itfrom figures available that boys' classes-will increase byones but that there will be one less girls f .class next year. This will not cause any improvement in the accommodationposition aa the boys' department will need the room now occu-pied by girls in the double portable building attached to theboys' department. The girls will still need an additionalroom in order that the use of this hatroom may be discontiny/11-have recommended previously that an additional roombesuppiTror oAstructed to relieve this unfortunate posit.L, ,..mompiummomommm.I have no rooms which may be transferred to Burke Ward.I fear there will be political and public reactions if thcpe, conditions are allowed to continue during the first term ofnext year.C°It is RECOMMENDEDthat the provision of an additional room be treatedas one of extreme urgency.b/ that climatic conditions here shnuldlead to Preferenqe.in local urgent needs.crPlacetaDate7-1rOVEP
