Oddfellows' Hall, Kiama.
An inspection of these premises, at present in use for
exhibition of pictures, was made by me on 19th instant, in
company with the proprietor, Mr. Hindmarsh..
Mr. Hindmarsh had made representations through Mr.
Davies, M.L.A. , to the effect that there were difficulties
in the way of meeting the requirements of the Department in
regard to Provision of additional exits.
Removal of operating box.
Gallery stairs renewal.
Exits. Present conditions as regards accommodation and

An additional indirect exit by way of 4' gu wide stal
case through basement is available, and by the partitioning
of this staircase off from open basement and making direct
access to lane at rear, I consider the exit requirements will
be met.
Gallery_Stairs.
While the existing stairs are narrow and rather steep,
the criticisms in respect of same were rather severe.
Difficulties in a rearrangement of the stairs to meet full

requirements are apparent; laowever, Mr. Hindmarsh has readil:
agreed to a remodelling of each of the stairs, and T have
agreed to certain concessions in regard to the stair construction, and the arrangement arrived at will meet the case
of this small gallery, and should provide exit for gallery
patrons in the space of li minutes' time.
Access is also available from gallery to the outside
street balcony.
Op eratinj3ox.
The present position of the operating box,constitutes a
decided danger in event of a fire in same, as the exits to
front street i7ould in this case he unapproachable. The box
will now be removed to gallery, and a new exit and passage in
seating, will replace same.
Mr. Hindmarsh has readily agreed to carry out all the
requirements that will now be referred to him.
would point out that this hail was erected prior to the
late on which the Theatres and Publigqalls Act came into force.
