St 983oe')17011DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION.DubboDISTRICT.SECTION.4IemoranbumH.A.Williamson,,toThe Chief Inspector.DUBBO HIGH SCHOOL: Accommodation for First Year Pupilsin 1940......With regard to the attached I wish to draw attentionto the following facts:I explored every possible avenue before I submittedmy first report to you. There is no possible chance of any kind whatsoeverof any use being made of the Boys', the Girls' or theInfants' Dept. buildings at the Public School. These, particularly the Girls' and Infants', are overcrowded. The Boys' Dept. uses the Infants' weather shed, a mostundesirable and inconvenient arrangement at presentunavoidable.1 find it impossible to arrange for rented accommodation of even a fairly suitable nature.Negotiations are now proceeding between the Departmentand the Dubbo Municipal Council for an additionalarea of the Dubbo Park to add to the High School site. The Council has agreed on condition that the proposedextensions are made forthwith. This is the only possible solution of a long—standing problem. In answer to many requests from schools and parentspropose next week to send out Assessment Sheets approvingof the enrolment of pupils who gained over 110 I.Q. Thiswill involve 121 pupils - still too many, but it is thoughtthat to decline enrolment to such pupils on the groundsthat there is no accommodation would be a dangerous policy.e "deferred" pupils will be as follows:1.Q. 106 to 110 34 (including 27 Dubbo pupils)tt14I.Q. 100 to 105 21tt31I.Q. under 1003772,Total , 92,From my point of view the main problems are:1. What is to be done with the 72 Dubbo pupils most ofwhom are under 14 and cannot leave school? As most of the Dubbo pupils (at least) with I.Qs. of106-110 have done good work in their classes, one ofthe boys, for example ranks 5th in a class of 92 anda girl 8th out of 80, and others also rank high, whatexcuse can be made to the parents? The pupils from outside Dubbo include some from veryisolated places, e.g., Goodooga. As was the case last year, stray applications are nowbeginning to drift in.The Chief Inspector will, I understand, be in Dubbo at.....nomumuninsimmemmill.11110*an early date. I would be grateful of an opportunity ofdiscussing this matter with him on the spot if I might beje notified of the date of his visit.Inspector.ecto1.1.28/10/39.1L, PlaceDateCM /getccv19MOVER
