FROM:
Charles Christie, Headmaster.

E. E. Gray Esq., B.Ec.
SUBJECT:
Apparent "Pegging" of Portion of Site.
REFERENCE:
(My notification re "Pegging" of this site dated
25/6/57); 30/9/59 TK:P2 (from Secretary, Education
Department).
I have to report that on 26/11/59 at 4.15 p.m.
observed a workman completing the erection of a white "Boundarypost" approximately 5 yards north of the N.W. corner post of our
school playground.
This workman refused to give his name, and also
refused to give any information with regard to details of the
MINING "lease-claim" apparently being pegged-out by N.S.W. Rutile
Mining Company Pty. Ltd.
He then drove northwards in a Land Rover (BRv811)
containing four further prepared posts, and was accompanied by an
associated car (BGX545).
I then discovered that a further post had been
erected at the S.E. corner of the area under "claim" (this post
was placed about 6 inches away from the post which had been erected
about 25/6/57 in connection with leases 331 and 332 (see my report
to Inspr. J.C. Pryce on that date, as well as my report to the
Secretary, Education Department, dated 3/10/59).
As no "data" nor "notice" had been attached to
either of these two erected posts, on 27/11/59 1 searched the
whole area, and observed the following information which has been
set out on a "rough" map about L chains to the inch:-(attached).
At the N.B. corner of their "area", a corner post
and "datum" post had been erected about 9 yards from the previous
corner post which is still standing. The "datum post" appears to
have held a cloth notice recently, but which has been torn off, and
was not exhibited there at 4.15 p.m. on 27/11/59.
At the N.W. corner of their "area", only trenches
were evidenced and recently dug, a post apparently had been erected
and very recently removed.
At the S.W. corner of their "area", a post and
trenches were standing, and recently erected.
Now this "area" pegged out by them, includes a
portion of our School Playground or SITE adjadent to our existing
Northern fence and about 5 yards from it on the outside, and includes the portion of about 1 rood 3 perches Portion 64, Parish of
Terranora, County of Rous dedicated for Public School purposes and
notified in Government Gazette of 1/10/54. (see 49/94/33201 HEQ:P2
of 22/10/54)On 3/10/59, in reply to letter from the Secretary
Educ. Dept., I quote the following which still applies:On 25/6157, as a matter of urgency, I notified Mr.
Inspr. J. C. Pryce that according to DATUM POST erected and to my
observations, the N.S.W. Rutile Mining Co. Pty. Ltd. had taken
