AWS/MC. 49. (P).
Dear Mr. McGirr,
1921ing_EI20ELSpr Princess Elizabeth.
refer to my letter of the 5th December, 1947
relating to the Blankets which the Government presented
to Princess Elizabeth on the occasion of her recent marriage.
As pointed out in that letter two of the packages
containing tb special blankets arrived by air and were
duly delivered to Her Royal highness.
The 3rd package, which was understood to be Dart of
the same air consignment has not yet arrived.
The Quantas Empire Airways representatives here were,
some time ago, renuested to make urgent enquiries regarding
the arrival of the third package and now state that, after
exhaustive search, they have not been able to trace it
although their enquiries are still proceeding.
It would appear that there is a possibility that the
3rd parcel has been lost but, in view of the seriousness
of the situation, it is suggested that enquiries be made
at your end.
A letter was received on the 6th January from he
Government Stores Department stating that the 8 cases of
additional blanketa for distribution by the Princess to
necessitous people) had been shipped by the "Esperance Bay"
and I am making appropriate arrangements for these to be
handed to Her Royal Highness on arrival.
No doubt you will let me know in due course the result
of your enquiries relating to the missing package.
Yours faithfully,
Agent General.
The Hon. James McGirr, M.L.A*,
Premier & Colonial Treasurer,
SYDNEY.
